Diálogos – CONCÉNTRICO 08

Competition entry developed with Ana Costa e Silva, AnnaLisa Meyboom and David Correa.

With two projects we want to create a dialogue and, in that sense, a symbolic unity, departing from the same generative design, arriving to two variations adapted to each landscape.

The projects set up a dialogue – a friendly exchange between friends, landscapes and places

Evoking the textures of woven baskets used for grapes, the projects speak to each other through form and material. Marking provincial views and magical vineyards, the installations celebrate the dialogue between these two regions. Each installation welcomes guests to see the landscape from a new vantage point, a new frame of reference. These projects were made with digital parametric tools, generating an algorithmic design which allows for the easy and instant adaptation to different situations, ensuring versatility.

Viña Lanciano – Site in Spain

In topographical terms, the territory in Lanciano is flat, not allowing the visibility to the vineyard landscape.

The geometry of this installation is meant to allow the visitor to see in the distance – by raising the visitor higher, they can get a better view of the amazing vineyard. As well after viewing, they can slide down – adding fun to the visit. Children, who may not be as sensible to the beauty of place, can instead just play on the slide, and run under the arch.

The arch was chosen because of the relationship of the old arch from the historic bridge on the site which has also been taken into the architectural language of the visitor’s site.

Quinta do Seixo – Site in Portugal

At Quinta do Seixo, in Portugal, the site is characterized by the terraces that serve as a platform to accommodate the vineyards. These platforms allow a clear visibility to the whole landscape.

The placement takes advantage of the magnificent views across the hills and valleys. Instead of the more typical Douro River view which is blocked by olive trees, the beautiful mountains’ view to the south was preferred. The site also honors tradition by marking the old road, a historical route which continues along the escarpment.

The shape of the installation provides shelter from the sun so that visitors can sit longer with each other while enjoying the landscape.
